Foundation course |
The Bachelor programme commences with a 2-semester foundation course, which is design-oriented and also covers the basic technical principles of archtectural design. The teaching methods used include tutorials, seminars and accompanying lectures. The foundation course is intended to sharpen students’ haptic perception, hone their senses and develop their creative abilities. The skills acquired in this first study phase can also be put to good use in other creative study programmes and occupations. In these first two semesters, students also acquire basic theoretical and practical knowledge leading to the qualification of Bachelor of Arts in Architecture. |

Core curriculum |
The foundation course is followed by the 4-semester core curriculum phase, which places greater emphasis on technical design. Here, students acquire the basic professional qualifications they need to pursue a career in architecture through practical exercises, especially in the are- as of project design and construction. The four project modules build on one another and progressively introduce tasks of ever greater complexity. The didactic goal behind these increased demands in terms of project design and construction and their complexity is to provide students with the most comprehensive and in-depth knowledge possible. |

Thesis |
The Bachelor programme concludes with the Bachelor’s thesis written in the sixth semester. The thesis module comprises producing three project drafts in a weekly rhythm, the actual Bachelor’s thesis and thesis specialisation in theory or construction. The Bachelor’s thesis consists of preparing a project on an appropriate architectural topic and is written during the 6th semester. Candidates must be capable of tackling a problem related to their field of study within a given time frame, independently and applying scientific methods. The teaching staff propose different topics with the same level of difficulty for the Bachelor’s thesis each year. 6th semester: BACHELOR’S THESIS The sixth semester is devoted to preparing and writing the Bachelor’s thesis. The main design project is an urban design concept, which is flanked by complementary subjects from the modules Building and facility management and Project optimisation with consideration of building law and climate change. A catalogue of elective subjects allows students to specialise in an area of their choice. The thesis consists of producing three project drafts, the actual Bachelor’s thesis and thesis specialisation in an elective subject. It leads to the qualification of Bachelor of Arts. |
